Outliers: Growing Environment>or=Talent
I got the most educational and pleasant intellective reading experience i've ever had from his last work, Tipping Point, a book details how small things make big difference. So i've been expecting his new book, the outlier, hoping the stories and ideas in the book will blow my mind. However, after i finished the book this month, to be honestly, i'm not satisfied.
As the subtitle of the book indicates, Outliers is a book about what’s the essential factor that really helps to make those people like Bill Gates and Waron.Barfield stands out and get huge success in their career. Gladwel collects lots of lively stories, just like he did in all of his previous books, to prove his point that the environment that those successful people dependent is much more important than the individual qualities, which are the talent they have and the effort they made.
What he said is undeniable, and i think that's the problem. If you point something undeniable, something conventional wisdom, then your story is very likely to be boring. But this is Michael Gladwel, a guy who has a gift for making the topic interesting. So the Outliers still worth reading, but don't expect too much. Period.
